The Cape Leopard Trust - Boland Project

Of particular interest to visitors of the Green Mountain Trail will be one specific adult male leopard – Popeye (BM17). This individual was photographed on several occasions along a section of the trail close to the Houwhoek Inn. Popeye seems to be a dominant individual and has been photographed at a number of other sites within and adjacent to the Groenlandberg, Houwhoek and Hottentots-HollandNature Reserves.

Research done on collared leopards in the Cederberg has revealed that the Cape leopard is much smaller than their Bushveld cousins, with healthy adult individuals reaching only half the average weight of leopards in the Kruger. Furthermore, Cape leopards are very elusive and notoriously shy of people and will readily retreat if encountered. Hikers therefore need not be afraid to hike in the area and should consider themselves very fortunate should they see one of these majestic cats..

Your Green Mountain Hike exceeded my expectations - and was excellent value. Everyone gave more of themselves to make the whole experience very personable - the meals & accommodations were very good. I am very happy to recommend the Hike to anyone. (Bruce Ravenhill)

The trail (Green Mountain Trail). Extremely good value for money. Interesting varied trails, ups and downs - but while long never excessive scrambling. Weather behaved although a couple of days it was hot or humid. But again nothing in excess.

The guide on the first two days (the Fynbos Guy - Dominic) was extraordinary good. It was a tough taks for the two guides to take it up next two days (they did not know what we knew from the two previous days)

The lay-out with surprises (lunch in the middle of Oak River vineyard with two lovely girls), the wine tasting (Eerste Hoop in Porcupine, In Paul Kluwer and Wildekransw andn Beaumont) were all extarordinary well done and full of pleasant palate surprises (and quite a few cases were bought)

Murray and Alison had fantastic accomodation and food arrangements for us. Transport in between was well organised.

All in all thanks for getting us included - with a very nice crowd - an English couple, a RSA couple from CPT, a lady Portugues RSA resident and a photographer/ journalist who is goin to put us all into Country Life in a couple of months. Not a single disagreement or unsatisfaction for the four days and four nights.

Hope this answers your query which you are welcome to share with others

Hike on-on

Peter

PS My wife reading above mentioned two issues. At Oak River lunch they should ensure shadow sitting for all - and maybe there was one wine tasting too much (I disagree with the last point)
